Tanager girls' softball team opens with DH win
The Vermillion Tanager softball club team won a double header on Aug. 27 facing McCook Central and Lennox at the Duhnam complex in Sioux Falls.

Coach Matt Brandhagen has a talented squad of 13 high school softballers as they enter to the SDHS Class B varsity club team season.

Game #1 was a close contest with the Tanagers out- pointing McCook 6-3. Jenny Bye was the winning pitcher, giving up four hits and four walks, while registering nine Ks.

Five players scored – Chelsea Gauer – 2 runs, 3 for 4 at bats; Jenny Bye – 2 for 4, 1 run; Ashley Ouellette – 2 for 4, 1 run; Brianna Brinkman – 1 for1, 1 run; Alicia Brown – 1 run.

Game two was a not very competitive, as Brianna Brinkman pitched a steady three-hit shutout seven innings. She recorded eight Ks and no walks. The Tanagers scored eight runs on six hits to claim the victory.

Vermillion scoring stats were: Brittany Bye� 3 for 3, 1 run; Alexa Walker – 1 for 2, 1 run; Katie Kashas – 1 for 2, 1 rbi; Jenny Bye – 1 for 2, 2 runs; Chelsea Houska, Ashley Ouelette, Brianna Brinkman, and Alicia Brown each scored a run.

By defeating the #1 and 2 rated teams in preseason, the Tanagers have a 2-0 record.
