Tanager golf team introduced for 2006

While the 2006 season is under way, it seems appropriate to review last year's successes and introduce the present squad members.

Coach Kirk Hogen is faced with the pleasant task of selecting 10 varsity and JV members from a cadre of 21 young golfers.

The team is coming off a great 2005 season which included a Big Eight Conference crown, and a second place finish at the State A Tournament, where Alex Schaack and Broc Gauer were medalists in the top 10.

Other returning lettermen are Jordan Boots, Mikal Ustad, Aaron Steele, Ryan Powell and Eric Ustad. Joining them are seniors Gabe Stienmeyer and Ryan Scheidel; juniors Dan Storm, Jordan Merrigan and Ryan Angelo; freshmen Pat Haught, Cole Andre and Jimmy Lai; middle schoolers Eric Storm, Jason Sorensen, Andrew Cowman, Mitchell Nelson and Lucas Zimmerman.

"Our strength is the team's depth and our success depends on making the effort needed to win," Hogen said. "We must challenge ourselves and by controlling course management (not beating ourselves), we hope to duplicate last year's successes."
