USD physician assistants participate in Relay for Life
The University of South Dakota physician assistant class of 2007 took action to support cancer research when it participated in the annual Union County American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

Twenty class members secured over $1,500 in pledges and sponsorships prior to the relay to provide for cancer research and programs in an event that celebrated life and survivorship through fireworks, music, contests, food and a children's carnival while honoring those impacted by the disease.

Class participation was spearheaded by second-year students Jana Larson, Priscilla Johnson and Kurt Schmeckpeper.

"The Relay for Life was definitely a success," said Larson. "It provided a wonderful opportunity for our class to raise money for a great cause and give back to the community. In addition, we were able to spend a memorable evening together as a class before going our separate ways for clinical rotations."

The event held at the Elk Point-Jefferson High School track raised over $26,000 to fight cancer and provide services to cancer patients and their families.
