The Coyotes will take Washburn (2-0-0, 0-0-0 MIAA) at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 1, on a neutral field. USD then faces host school Central Missouri State (2-0-0, 0-0-0 MIAA).
This will be the second straight season South Dakota has taken on Washburn on a neutral field. Last year, the Coyotes earned a 4-1 victory in what was the first meeting between the two schools.
USD and Central Missouri State have not met since the 2004 season in which the Coyotes prevailed 2-1. The only other time South Dakota and CMSU met came in the 2002 season opener with the Jennies earning a 2-1 victory in double overtime.
All-time, the Coyotes own a 6-7-0 mark against schools from the MIAA, but were 2-1-0 against them in 2005.
USD head coach Becky Heiberger returns for her second season at the helm of the Coyote program with a career record of 15-6-2 (.696). Last season, Heiberger led South Dakota to a 14-6-1 mark and a berth in the NCAA Division II National Tournament. She also guided the Coyotes to a 7-4-1 mark in North Central Conference play and was named NCC Co-Coach of the Year for her efforts.
Assisting Heiberger this season are Becky Maynard and Emily King.
