In their first appearance in the S.D. State �A� Amateur Baseball Tournament, the Vermillion Red Sox recorded two victories. In the first game the Red Sox met Huron and were trailing 5-3 after 3 1/2 innings before the rain postponed the game to Sunday. Due to wet field conditions play was moved from Brookings to Huron. When play resumed the Red Sox held Huron and were able to put nine more runs on the board resulting in a 12-5 win for the Red Sox. Josh Merrigan was the winning pitcher in relief.
Game two of the day saw the Red Sox pitted against the Renner Road Runners. In a pitcher�s dual the game was scoreless until the Red Sox scored a run in the bottom of the sixth inning. They added three more on a three-run homer by Brian Boyer in the seven inning while holding Renner scoreless for a final score of 4-0. Trent Eckstaine recorded the win pitching seven innings allowing only three hits. Randy Thygeson closed out the final two innings.
The next action will be in Mitchell�s Cadwell Park at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18 against the Renner Monarchs.
