Yankton Children's Choir receives $1,800 SDAC grant
The Yankton Children's Choir (YCC) has been awarded an $1800 project grant from the South Dakota Arts Council (SDAC). Grants from the SDAC are awarded to organizations which promote the fine arts in South Dakota.

The YCC Board of Directors plans to use the monies to help cover the costs of special projects planned for their upcoming 14th season. Plans for 2006-2007 include an invitation to sing with the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra, a recital featuring Terry Pospisil and other members of Acoustic Christmas, and a tour, in addition to the formal winter and spring concerts.

Lea Ann Schramm, choral director, said, "We are so pleased to again have been awarded a SDAC project grant. We appreciate the confidence of the state arts community in the Yankton Children's Choir."

Young singers still have an opportunity to be a part of the choir's 2006-2007 season, as the choir offers its traditional end-of-summer audition opportunity, Monday, August 21, from 5 to 9 p.m.

Children in the area who love to sing, and will be in 3rd through 8th grades this fall, are encouraged to try out for the Concert Choir. Each singer must be accompanied by a parent and or guardian.

Also, young people in grades 9 through 12 are invited to auditions for the YCC Encore Choir, under the direction of Professor Eugene Brinkmeyer.

All auditions will be held at the United Church of Christ, 5th & Walnut, Yankton. (Please use the west alley door of the education wing.)
