Welcome Home, Charlie Battery – Charlie Battery, a field artillery unit of the South Dakota Army National Guard – Battery C, 1st Battalion, 147th Field Artillery headquartered in Yankton, with members from Vermillion, is expected to return home on Saturday, Sept. 30, passing through Cherry Street in Vermillion between 2 and 2:30 p.m. We encourage everyone to welcome them home and thank them for their service by (1) displaying your flags, yellow ribbons, and signage (2) attending a parade and deactivation ceremony in Yankton, anticipated to begin around 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 30, (3) attending an open house reception for Vermillion troops and their families at Valiant Vineyards Winery on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m. with a brief program at 2:30 p.m., and (4) donating items for gift baskets by calling the VCDC at 624-5571 prior to Oct. 6. Thanks for supporting our troops!

Vermillion Community Theatre presents The Fantasticks – "The story of a boy, two fathers, and a wall ?" The Fantasticks has played continuously in New York for 42 years, and now Vermillion's local cast brings this wonderful musical to you! Performances are Friday, Sept. 29 and Saturday, Sept. 30 at 8 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. at Farber Hall. Adults $10, children and students (with valid ID) $5. Advance tickets on sale at Nook 'n Cranny, and will also be available at the door on the day of the performance.

First Baptist Church Youth Group Car Bash – Saturday, Oct. 7 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. next door to the First Baptist Church. Prizes awarded for bashers, as well as some other surprises! Also, come early to see Charlie Coyote take the first swing! Cost is $1 for 3 swings, or $5 for a window swing, and if you break the window, you get a prize. Vermillion Area Arts Council Upcoming Events

Seeking Nominations for Retailer of the Year – The South Dakota Retailers Association is seeking nominations for the Retailer of the Year award. The award is presented each year to a retail store owner or manager who consistently provides outstanding customer service and is also actively involved in the community. People who own or manage a retail store are eligible. Nominations for the Retailer of the Year Award must reach the Retailers Association office by Nov. 10 to be considered. The recipient will be honored at the SDRA Awards Banquet in Pierre in January. Coach Ed Meierkort to Host TD Club Meeting on Wednesdays in Vermillion – University of South Dakota head football coach Ed Meierkort and his staff will host TD Club Meetings Wednesdays at 7 p.m. at Pro's. Meierkort has directed USD to a 19-4 record in two seasons at USD. The event is free and open to the public.

VCDC Call for Actors – The VCDC is looking for actors and actresses interested in performing a part in our Murder Mystery Theatre event on Friday, Oct. 27. If you are interested, please contact us at 624-5571 by Sept. 29. This event is tons of fun, and who knows – you may be discovered!
