    Friday, Sept. 22 – Red & White Day

    7 p.m. – Vermillion Tanagers vs. Beresford at the DakotaDome. Go Tanagers!!

    8:30 to 11:30 p.m. – Homecoming dance at the high school. $5 per person.

  • National Music Museum's Brown Bag Lunch Program – Featuring the Euclid String Quartet performing Mozart's Hoffmeister on Friday, Sept. 22 from 12:05 to 12:55 p.m. at the National Music Museum on the corner of Clark and Yale Streets on the campus of USD.   • Power outage for Vermillion Electric customers – Weather permitting, there will be a power outage for all city of Vermillion electric customers on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 5 a.m. for two to three hours. East River Electric, who delivers the power to the City of Vermillion, is performing scheduled maintenance on their high voltage transmission line serving the city. This work will require a temporary power outage to all city of Vermillion customers. For more information go to www.cityofvermillion.com.

  • St. Agnes Catholic Daughters business meeting – Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at the St. Agnes School auditorium. This is a business meeting as well as membership night.
  • Vermillion Public Schools early dismissal Sept. 26 – The Vermillion public schools will be dismissing at 12:30 p.m. for a teacher in-service on Tuesday, Sept. 26.
  • Downtown After Dark/Crazy Daze Event – Thursday, Sept. 28 from 3 to 8 p.m. in downtown Vermillion. Come and enjoy "The Fabulous Fifties" with us with great music, reminiscing, food, dancing, and shopping! Indulge in 1950s-style food including burgers, hot dogs, cool ice cream treats and more, or relax and dine at one of our many fine restaurants!

    Dozens of vendors and merchants from downtown to Cherry Street are going sale crazy offering extraordinary specials and dramatic price reductions. There will be a hula-hoop contest, kiddie pet parade, hot dog eating contest, a 1950s era constume contest, 1950s music and a Sock Hop at Open Mike's, Splish Splash Rubber Ducky game, tour of historical photos of Vermillion from the '50s era, and much more! There will be a special appearance by "The Fonz"!

    To fully enjoy the evening, you are welcome to bring your own lawn chairs! Proceeds from this event will support the Vermillion Food Pantry. Attendees are encouraged to bring a food item or can contribute money to help support those in need through this great organization. Please watch for further details on this event in the Broadcaster, Plain Talk, or turn into Mix 106.3, as well as posters throughout the community.     5:45 p.m. – Kiddie Pet Parade. Have your kids (and their pets) in front of Bank of the West at 5:30 p.m.

    6 p.m. – Hot Dog Eating Contest. Register in front of the Candy Bouquet/Doo Wop Shake Shop by 5:45 p.m.; 18 years or older with a 12-person maximum, so get there early!

    6:45 p.m. – 1950s Era Costume Contest. Please be in front of Open Mike's at 6:30 p.m. for judging.

    7 p.m. – Hula-Hoop Contest. Hula hoops are provided; be in front of Heartland Home Care at 6:45 p.m. to get your hula hoop.

  • Women of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Senior Citizen Member Annual Dinner – Thursday, Sept. 28, 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Open to the public! Invite your family and friends to enjoy a night out with good food and acquaintances. Serving roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, salads and dessert. Support the senior center and purchase a ticket. For more information contact the Senior Center at 624-8072.
  • First Baptist Church Youth Group Car Bash – Saturday, Oct. 7 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. next door to the First Baptist Church. Prizes awarded for bashers, as well as some other surprises! Also, come early to see Charlie Coyote take the first swing! Cost is $1 for three swings, or $5 for a window swing, and if you break the window, you get a prize.
