The Book Club offers many selections to Internet patrons. Each book runs for five days, Monday through Friday. Some genres offer selections every other week. Learn skills for researching and recording your family history. A workshop in Beginning Genealogy is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 30 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Community Room of the library. Presenters Phyllis Knutson and Verlyss Jacobson are from the Sioux Valley Genealogical Society. Call for reservations, as seating is limited at 677-7060. A fee of $2 will be collected on that Saturday from 9 to 9:30 a.m. Participants may bring their own lunch or order a lunch at the time of registration.

There will be a second genealogy workshop in October! Learn skills for keeping chronological charts, lists, and time lines for births, deaths, marriages, and other family history. The Sioux Valley Genealogical Society will return on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. More information will be available at the September workshop.

Learn about fishing skills from an expert. A presentation by Norman Kronick of Fisherman's Bait & Tackle in South Sioux City, NE, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the library's Community Room. For more information, please call the library at 677-7060.

Scrabble Scrimmage is again scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the VPL Community Room. This activity is planned for adults and young adults from ages 12 to 18. Extra Scrabble boards and Scrabble dictionaries are welcome.

The October Book Club's selection is Giants in the Earth, by O.E. Rolvaag. This great South Dakota classic portrays a Norwegian immigrant family's trials, hardships, and life on the often-hostile land of the South Dakota prairie. Copies of this book are available at the circulation desk. The discussion will be held on Thursday, Oct. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the South Dakota Room of the library.
