Girls’ softball team splits another double header

The Vermillion Tanager softball club team split another double header when they faced McCook Central and Pipestone on Sept. 17 at the Dunham Park complex in Sioux Falls. Both games were one-run ending contests.

Game #1 was a really tough contest with the Tanagers prevailing 3-2. Jenny Bye was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs on five hits with 13 Ks and one walk. Her teammates had only three hits but it was enough for three runs of offense, since the defense and pitching saved the day.

Three players scored a run, each. (Jenny Bye, Brianna Brinkman, and Anna Erickson). Katie Kashas went 1 for 3 batting with an RBI; Erickson was 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Game two was a tight one also, as Brinkman pitched a respectable seven-run, five-hit, seven-inning complete game, registering three Ks and three walks to suffer a 6-7 loss. The team committed four errors.

Vermillion scoring stats were: Alicia Brown – 2 for 4, 1 run, 1 RBI; Kashas – 1 for 2, 2 runs; Brinkman – 1 for 2, 1 run, 1 RBI; Alexa Walker scored a run and had an RBI.

The season record is 4-2.
