JV softball team downs Brookings, Watertown
The Vermillion JV club softball team recently defeated Brookings and Watertown to up their record to 3-3 in league play.

Vermillion – 9 vs. Brookings – 1.

Pitcher Elizabeth Bye was sharp for the Tanagers as she pitched a complete game 2-hitter while striking out 12 Brookings batters in five innings.

Kayla Munger, Bethany Prinsen and Ellen Brown all went 2-for-3 to lead the offense. Also recording hits were Paige Korn, Jana Bye and Elizabeth Bye.

"This was a real nice win," said coach Kesi Holbrook. "Elizabeth pitched a great game, we had only one defensive error, and we scored nine runs against a very good Brookings pitcher."

Vermillion – 18 vs. Watertown – 2.

The Tanger JV offense exploded with 18 runs in support of another strong pitching performance, this one by Jana Bye.

Bye gave up 3 hits the first inning, but didn't allow another one the rest of the game. Watertown's only other base runner reach on a walk, but was thrown out attempting to steal second by catcher Carlee Sorensen.

Paige Korn, Kayla Munger, Claire Jones, and Ellen Brown each had two hits to lead the offense. Also recording base hits were: Bailey Carlson, Jana Bye, Lindsay Robinet, and Carlee Sorensen.

The Tanager JV will finish their season at the State Tournament help Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 in Sioux Falls.
