The award is presented to a retail store owner or manager who consistently provides outstanding customer service and is also actively involved in the community. People who own or manage a retail store are eligible.
"The Retailer of the Year Award is a very special recognition," says SDRA Awards Committee Chairman Jim Mohs of Sioux Falls. "Nominations for this award come from those directly impacted by the leadership of the retailer, including customers, peers, and others within their trade area. It is the ultimate compliment to the contributions made in their community and trade area."
Previous recipients of the award have come from every size of community in South Dakota, and they have operated businesses as diverse as flower shops, clothing stores, grocery stores, computer stores, appliance businesses, hardware stores, shoe stores, gift shops, restaurants, implement dealerships and pharmacies.
"The committee responsible for choosing the Retailer of the Year takes that responsibility very seriously," Mohs noted. "It is important that the selected retailer not only represents a progressive stance on the retail scene in South Dakota, but that they are a recognized contributor to their trade area and a responsible participant in the well-being of their community. For the winning retailer, the payback of the recognition from their local peers is priceless. I hope that people will take the time to help identify business people from their community who should be considered for the premier recognition award for a retailer in the state of South Dakota, the Retailer of the Year."
Nominations for the Retailer of the Year Award must reach the Retailers Association office by Nov. 10 to be considered. The recipient will be honored at the SDRA Awards Banquet in Pierre in January. Finalists for the award receive a Certificate of Distinguished Service.
