South Sioux City drops VHS volleyball

The VHS varsity volleyball team had a tough loss against the Cardinals of South Sioux City, dropping the five-game contest 2-3 with scores 26-24, 25-23, 11- 25, 9-25, 12-15 on Thursday, Aug. 31 in the Tanager gym.

In the preliminary matches, the C team (freshmen) lost 0-2. Stats for the team: Molly LeCates 1 ace, 2 SA; Jenny Bye – 5 K, 4 D; Ashley Ouellette – 4 K, 11 D; Michelle Blythe – 4 SA; Sierra Allen – 6 D.

"The girls are playing well together, but we still need to work on communication," said coach Chris Doty.

The junior varsity lost 2-0, by 25-13, 25-15. Individual players for the match: Leading attacks – Rachel Odens, 2 K; Kayla Gale – 1 ace; Raychel Lorenz – 3 SA; Sara Bye – 8 D.

"The girls played great defense, but we need to step up our offensive game," said coach Lori Jerred.

Head Coach Lenni Billberg was disappointed with the varsity's result.

"We had a great opening, now we need to find a way to finish the match," she said.

Tanager stats in the match: Ariel Hofman – 16 D; Krista Froke – 8 K, 2 B; Alicia Brown – 10 K, 5 B, 16 D; Kinsey Weydert – 22 SA; and Brittni Stewart – 3 B.
