Tanager volleyball team goes 1-2 at SE Classic

The VHS volleyball team hosted the South East Area Classic in Vermillion last Saturday, Sept. 23, where they won one and lost two, to finish fourth among the eight teams competing.

Key: A = ace, K = kill, B = block, D = dig, SA = set assists

In the first match against Parkston, the Tanagers won 25-20, 25-13, 24-26, 25-16.

Individual stats include: Ariel Hofman – 5 A, 12 D; Kinsey Weydert – 1 B, 3 D, 12 SA. Also contributing were: Alicia Brown – 6 K, 1 B, 10 D, 8 A; Krista Froke had 5 K, 3 D, 1 A; Brittni Stewart – 5 K, 2 A; and Kayla Gale – 5 K, 3 B.

The second match against Harrisburg was a four-game loss (15-25, 13-25, 25-23, 25- 21).

Stats for the Tanagers were: Weydert – 11 SA, 9 D; Froke – 9 K, 2 B, 16 D, 3 A; Brown – 9 K, 2 B, 2 SA, 9 D; Stewart – 2 B; Hofman – 7 D.

Match #3 had the Tanagers against EP/J, a two-game loss, 20-25, 10-25 .

Stats for the match were: Weydert – 2 K, 2 B, 1 SA; Stewart – 6 D; Shannon Robinet – 2 A; Hofman – 6 D.

The final standings for the Southeast Area Classic were: first – Milbank; second – Harrisburg; third – Elk Point/Jefferson; fourth – Vermillion; fifth – West Central; sixth – Parkston; seventh – Tea Area; eighth – Lennox.
