Tanagers participate in Don Baker Invitational

Vermillion High School was one of eight high schools participating in the Don Baker Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, Sept. 2, at the Memorial Course in Vermillion.

Team points were not calculated for two divisions – boys and girls varsity and JV. The winner of the 5K run was SF Roosevelt's Bill Kogel in 15:52 minutes.

Among the Tanager runners in the division: Andrew Manning placed ninth; Broc Gauer, 11th, and JR Moore came in 19th.

The JV runners competed in a 3K race. Local finishers were: Brad Orr, 22nd, and Brody Stone, 38th.

There were 19 runners in the varsity girls' 4K which was won by Caitlyn Crowley of SF Roosevelt. Emily Renner was 11th and Katarina Gombocz came in 12th for Vermillion.

The JVers ran a 3K race. Placers for the Tanagers were: Shelby Gregoire, eighth; Krista Froke, ninth; Brandi BlueArm, Beth Szymonski, Cassie Donahoe, and Sarah Day went 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th, in that order; and Sarah Szymonski 19th.
