Tanagers score victory against Alcester/Hudson team

The VHS varsity volleyball team outpointed the Alcester/Hudson Cubs, winning a three-game match with scores of 25-15, 25-23, and 25-11 for the victory on Monday, Sept. 18 in the Alcester gym.

In the preliminary matches, the junior varsity lost 2-1, by 19-25, 25-12, 21-25. Individual players for the match: Leading attacks Alexa Walker – 6 K; Sara Kjose – 14 SA; Hannah Korkuska – 24 D; and Justine Sorensen – 3 aces, 5 K, and 5 B.

"We win some and lose some," said coach Lori Jerred. "The JV had a dour night and couldn't keep the ball in the court."

Head Coach Lenni Billberg was satisfied with the varsity's performance.

"This wasn't pretty, but a win is a win," she said.

Alicia Brown led the way with 12 attacks, 6 K, 2 B, 11 POS, 4 aces; Krista Froke – 16 atks, 5 K, 5 B, 4 D, 9 POS; Raychel Lorenz had 7 SA, 3 K; Kinsey Weydert – 22 assists, 13 POS, 2 aces; Kayla Gale – 8 K; Brittni Stewart – 12 atks, 6 K, 9 POS; Ariel Hofman – 13 P, 8 D, 14 POS.
