Tanagers win Region 2A Golf Tournament Sept. 25

On Monday, Sept. 25, the Vermillion boys' golf team won the Class 2A Regional Tournament, played at the Central Valley Golf Course in Hartford, scoring 314 for first place. There were 10 teams competing.

West Central was second (326) and Dakota Valley third (342).

Medalist was Harrisburg's Nolan Meyer who won in a two-hole playoff against D-V's Nate Barbee, a 76 tie. Justin Neilsen with 77 was third, followed by Vermillion's Alex Schaack, Aaron Steele, and Broc Gauer, tied for fourth with 78.

John Frankl (EP/J) and Ryan Smith (WC) tied at seventh (79); Jordan Boots (V) and Travis Swier (WC) tied for ninth (80) to complete the top 10. Mikal Ustad tied for 18th among the 50 golfers competing.

Any team qualifying four golfers in the region will be eligible to vie for the championship at the state tournament which is being held in Spearfish on Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 2-3.
