Senator John Thune has announced that the Wakonda School District will receive $17,180.19 from the Schools and Libraries Program of the Universal Service Fund, commonly known as "E-Rate," is administered by the Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) under the direction of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
This program provides discounts to assist schools and libraries to obtain affordable telecommunications and Internet access.
"Telecommunications and information exchange are vital components of today's education system," said Thune. "It is important for our school districts and libraries to maintain access to telecommunications and the Internet in the ever-changing world. Today's students will live and work in a world greatly impacted by technology and we must ensure that our schools are preparing them to meet that challenge. As a member of the Senate Republican High-Tech Task Force I will continue to work to make sure that technology is available for public use."
The Schools and Libraries Program supports connectivity, the pipeline for communications using telecommunications services and the Internet.
