USD volleyball will play Augustana Friday
After three weekends featuring four matches apiece to start the 2006 season, the South Dakota volleyball team (4-8, 0-0 NCC) has just one contest on the docket this week, that being the North Central Conference opener at Augustana (5-6, 0-0 NCC) on Friday, Sept. 15. The match is slated for a 7 p.m. start in the Elmen Center in Sioux Falls.

The Coyotes will enter the league lid-lifter having split their last six contests. Augustana meanwhile will take on Wayne State (NE) on Tuesday in its home opener before squaring off against USD. Also, Augie has won three straight matches, and four of their last five, heading

into their match against WSC on Tuesday.

The Vikings swept the season series between the two schools last season after splitting a pair of matches in 2004.

Now in his fourth season as the head coach of the Coyotes is Brian Lamppa. The run of success South Dakota has enjoyed under Lamppa's reign is one of the best in school history as he has guided the program to a 50-50 (.500) mark and USD's first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division II national tournament (2004).

Lamppa's 46 victories in his first three seasons are a school record, and the 20 North Central Conference wins he has in that time are all the more impressive considering the fact USD had only 18 league victories in the previous 18 seasons combined. Assisting Lamppa this season are Kevin Marquis and Kristen Miller.
