VHS frosh football team

Thursday, Sept. 7, at the WCHS field, the weather was hot but breezy for the football game pairing the West Central Trojan freshmen against the visiting Tanager freshman team.

Both schools featured a ferocious defensive game, but some effective offenses made the final score (22-14) in favor of Vermillion as apparent.

"We moved the ball well offensively, and capitalized on their mistakes," said coach Jason Gault. "Defensively, we did a good job. We had one breakdown, but overall did well."

Jordan Robinson led the offense gaining 72 yards with two TDs; Nick Mart covered 61 yards in rushing and Tanner Mart added 38 yards. Kylen Freidel went 1 of 2 passing for 45 yards, and ran for 23 yards. He also scored a TD.

Tanager touchdown stats: (1st) 12-yard run by Robinson, 2 point conversion – Freidel run; (2nd) 25-yard Robinson run, Tanner Mart – EP run; (3rd) Freidel 1-yard QB sneak, conversion failed.

On defense: Nick Mart had 12 Ts; Tanner Mart had 8 Ts; and Freidel intercepted a pass.
