VHS softball hits a snag

The Vermillion Tanager softball club team hit a snag in their 2006 early season when they faced the Lennox Orioles in a double header on Sept. 9. The second game was against Watertown at the Dunham complex in Sioux Falls.

Game one was a tough contest with the Tanagers falling 3-7. Brianna Brinkman was the losing pitcher giving up seven runs on nine hits with three Ks and four walks. Her teammates had seven hits but could muster only three runs of offense.

Three players scored a run, each. (Ashley Ouellette, Jenny Bye, and Nicky Huth). Katie Kashas and Brinkman each drove in a run. Kashas went three for three batting.

Game two was a tight one, too, as Jenny Bye pitched a one run, two hit, seven inning complete gem registering 13 Ks and no walks to claim a 5-1 victory.

Vermillion scoring stats were: Chelsea Houska – three walks, one run; Alicia Brown – 3 for 3, two runs; one rbi; Ouellette – 1 for 4, one rbi; Anna Erickson – 1 for 3, one run; Huth – 1 for 3, one run, one rbi.

The season record is 3 – 1.
