VHS Tanagers host cross country invite

The Tanagers held their annual cross country invitational on Friday, Sept. 15, at the Don Baker Memorial Course in Vermillion. Five teams were entered in four divisions – boys' and girls' varsity and JV.

The winner of the 5K run was Heelan's Anthony Oberle in 17:31 minutes. Andrew Manning placed third for the Tanagers, Casey Carlson was 17th and Ryan Powell was 19th. Also finishing were: DJ Donahoe, Brad Orr, and Jeff Donnelly.

The girls' 4K was won by Madison Musilek of West Sioux. Amy Roder from Heelan was second and Katarina Gombocz came in third for Vermillion.

Other placers for the Tanagers were: Jana Bye (22nd); Sarah Day (23rd); and Krista Froke (28th).

Joanna Fravel (Heelan) won the JV 4K and Vermillion's Brandi BlueArm was third. Also finishing for the Tanagers: Cassie Donahoe (sixth); Shelby Gregoire (seventh); Lexi Regnerus (eighth); Beth Szymonski (eighth); Steffanie Donahoe (11th); Bailey Carlson (13th); Shannon Jepsen (15th); Molly Manning (20th); and Julie Renner (22nd).

The JV 4000M run was won by Heelan's David Jung. Tanager's best placer was Dexter Mehlhaf (10th), followed by Brody Stone (15th); Isaac Druin (18th); Nick Britten (20th); and Tony Hubert (23rd). Other participants in the run for the Tanagers were Skyler Tiahrt and Alex Card.
