Western Swing, a combination of country string band music and big-band jazz, was pioneered by the legendary Texas fiddler and bandleader Bob Wills and his Texas Playboys in the 1930s and '40s. The concert will feature tunes made famous by Wills and other songs of the era.
Gayville Hall emcee and singer John McNeill, who was born near Tulsa, OK, where Wills attained his fame, promises to take the audience "back to Tulsa," as the classic song of Western Swing commands.
DeJong, on fiddle, and Schwebach, on lead and steel guitars, regularly perform many standards of the genre with their band, Poker Alice.
Gayville Hall is at 502 Washington Street in Gayville. Admission is $10 at the door or $12.50 for reserved seating. Call 605-267-2859.
