According to Joffer, there were seven more DWI arrests made during this year's event than in 2005. Twenty people were cited for underage consumption of alcohol.
One felony and four misdemeanor drug arrests were also made during the three day reporting period.
Joffer says that although these kind of stats are troubling, the Highway Patrol reported an "accident free" weekend in the Vermillion area as a result of their efforts.
Joffer said he also believes the Highway Patrol prevented 39 drunk drivers from sharing the road with others who drove to Vermillion to enjoy the Dakota Day festivities.
