Area patients thankful for local blood donors
With the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaching, we can be thankful for many things such as friends, family and neighbors. Without the continuing support of blood donors, patients would not have a chance for another tomorrow.

People live such busy lives and yet taking time to give one unit of blood can make the difference between life and death to a patient in the hospital. It is essential that blood and blood products are available when necessary.

These occurrences do not stop or slow down during the holidays. Your friends, family, neighbors and community are depending on you to help maintain your community blood supply.

The community blood supply needs over 1500 individuals to donate blood each week with the Siouxland Community Blood Bank to keep up with the needs of the 35 area hospitals in Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota.

Your next opportunity to donate in Gayville is Wednesday, Nov. 8 from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Community Center.

To be eligible to donate blood individuals must be at least 17 years of age; however there is no upper age limit as long as the donor is in good health. In addition donors need to weigh over 110 pounds and have not donated whole blood in the past 56 days. A photo I.D. is required at the time of registration.
