The Meaning of Night, by author Michael Cox, is a spellbinding story of murder, deceit, love, and revenge in Victorian England. It is an ordinary story of Edward Glyver, booklover, scholar, and murderer set in part in rural Northamptonshire, where the author lives. Cox is the editor of The Oxford Book of English Ghost Stories and The Oxford Book of Victorian Detective Stories.

The internationally best-selling author of the Other Woman returns with a sharply observed tale of a single girl swapping places with a married mother of two. Swapping Lives, by Jane Green, is a riotous and poignant look at what happens when two women, both of whom think their happiness lies somewhere else, walk in each other's shoes for a month. Is the grass always greener on the other side of the fence?

Ellen McKinnon sees things, but manages to keep her unsettling visions to herself, until a recent experience that predicted the death of someone close has left her health and her marriage on the edge of total destruction. Kerry Hardie, the Irish author of A Winter Marriage, has written a novel, The Bird Woman, that effortlessly captures emotions that are stirred by the mysteries of faith and fidelity, hatred and love.
