The Coyote women meanwhile finished in third-place out of five schools with 63 points, but were only seven points back of Augustana's winning total of 56.
Wetering, who has been named the North Central Conference Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week three times already in 2006, completed the 10K circuit in a time of 32:44, a time that was 33 seconds faster than the second-place finisher. Sophomore Matt Yaggie (Mission Hill) took third by running a 33:40.
Freshman Rob Gregoire (Wakonda) came in sixth by clocking in at 34:02, while fellow frosh Sean Fitzsimmons (Yankton) was USD's fourth top 10 finisher by placing ninth in a time of 34:24. Junior Josh Blue (Council Bluffs, IA) was the fifth Coyote to count for the team score by running a 35:46 to take 18th. Also competing for the South Dakota men was junior Josh Jeffery (Spearfish), who was 21st with a 36:02.
On the women's side, sophomore Kelsey Maloney (Sioux Falls) was USD's top finisher by running the six-kilometer course in 22:55 to take fourth. Senior Amy Lindner (Sioux Falls) was the other Coyote runner to finish in the top 10 by taking 10th in a time of 23:29.
Sophomore Lexie Dunlop (Woodbine, IA) ran a 23:49 to place 15th, with freshman Tianna Hurtado (Loveland, CO) finishing in 18th with her 24:05. Sophomore Jessica Lundgren (Truman, MN) rounded out the South Dakota contingent by clocking in at 24:10 for a 21st-place effort.
The USD cross country programs will host the Coyote Invitational in its next action. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6, at the Don Baker Memorial Cross Country Course.
