The Vermillion Literary Project (VLP) is hosting the 10th annual VLP contest on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 12 to 3 p.m. in the McKusick Technology Center – the southeast corner of campus in room 101 – contestants should arrive no later than 11:45 a.m. A certain theme, image, or idea (which will not be announced until the contest begins) must figure prominently in your story. And the VLP Community Writers' Group, in collaboration with the VAAC, will be holding meetings for creative writers at the Washington Street Arts Center the first Thursday of every month at 8 p.m. Everyone is welcome, including USD students and the general public. Writers are invited to share their creative writing – poems, plays, short fiction, or other types of creative works ��and give each other feedback. The VAAC has started a new semester of art classes for children ages 8 and up on Saturdays and Sundays at the Washington Street Arts Center. Classes include beginning ceramics, bookbinding, paper making and more – for details or to register your child, call Susan Heggestad at 624-4766 today.
Pianist Christopher Larson and percussionist Jon Morin will be giving their USD student recitals on Sunday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. in Colton Recital Hall.
The USD Fall Choral Show- case will be taking place on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 3 p.m. in Slagle Auditorium.
A program called Celebrating Community Through Diversity will also be happening on Sunday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in Colton Recital Hall.
Finally, the Vermillion Farmer's Market continues at the Washington Street Arts Center Wednesdays from 3 to 7 p.m. through Oct. 25.
