It's time to raise the roof at the Spink Café
The Spink Café Community Fund Committee is sponsoring a fish fry and chicken feed on Saturday, Oct. 21, in return for a freewill offering that will be used to put a new roof on the restaurant.

Alaskan pollock and broasted chicken will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 5 to 10 p.m. The menu will also include cheesy potatoes, coleslaw and a dinner roll.

The café's roof is leaking and causing interior damage to the building. Because the restaurant is a local gathering place, community members decided to assist owners Diane and John Jr. Otten by raising funds to pay for a new roof. The building housed a general store for many years before it was converted to a restaurant.

Judy Stratman from WNAX radio will be broadcasting live from the café from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. during the Oct. 21 event. Raffles will be held for donated items that include a large Miller Lite Nascar display mirror. All raffle proceeds will go to the roof fund.

The Spink Café is located three miles east of Interstate 29 on S.D. Highway 48. The restaurant hours are: Wednesday and Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donations to help raise the roof on the Spink Café can be sent to: First National Bank, Box 920, Akron, IA 51001. Checks should be made payable to the Spink Café Community Fund.

Contributions also can be left at the café or given to any of the SCCF Committee members: Don Abraham, John Bernard, Carol Welch, Marcene Heeren and Lisa Welch.
