Tanager girls' softball team scores a tie, win
The Vermillion Tanager softball team, after a rainout the previous week, continued the regular season with the final double header on Oct. 1, as they faced Yankton and Tea in Yankton.

Game one was a low scoring contest (0-0) completed in seven innings (league rules declare a tie), with Jenny Bye going the distance, giving up four hits with seven Ks for the shutout. Unfortunately, the Yankton pitcher gave up only three hits along with seven Ks.

Alicia Brown went 2 for 2; and Britt Bye – 1 for 3.


Game two was against the Tea Titans and Brianna Brinkman pitched a three-run, six-hitter, registering five Ks in five innings. The Tanagers scored 10 runs on eight hits to meet the mercy rules to end the game with a 10-3 victory.

Vermillion scoring stats were: Brianna Brinkman – 2 runs on 1 for 2 batting; Jenny Bye – 1 for 2, 1 run; Katie Kashas – 2 for 3, 2 runs; Alicia Brown – 1 for 2, 2 runs; Ashley Ouellette – 1 for 3; Brittany Bye – 1 for 3, 1 run; Donica Crichton – 1 run.

The regular season record is 5-2-1! The state tournament will be held in Brandon at the Dunham softball complex on Oct. 7 and 8. Vermillion's first game is scheduled for noon Saturday.
