Tanager JV volleyball team entered EP/J Invitational

On Saturday, Oct 21, the Tanager Junior Varsity team was entered in The EP/J invitational involving eight teams.

In the first match the Tanagers lost to a tough Dakota Valley team 25-22, 25-19. Scoring stats for Vermillion: Sara Kjose had 10 set assists; Hannah Korkuska – 9 digs; Justine Sorensen – 2 kills, 2 blocks; Sierra Allen – 2 blocks; Rachel Odens and Jenny Bye – 3 kills, each; Stacey Bottlfson – 4 aces; and Jenny Bye – 2 kills.

Match two was an unfortunate three-game loss when a questionable decision by the judges gave Whiting a 29-27 decision in the deciding game. The teams had split the first two games 25-14, 17-25. Tanager Stats: Rachel Odens and Alexa Walker – 5 kills, each; Sara Kjose – 9 set assists, 2 aces (Walker also had 2 aces); Hannah Korkuska – 8 digs, 4 aces; and Justine Sorensen – 2 blocks.

The final match pitted the Tanagers against the EP/J JV and was decided in a quick two games 25-19, 25-13 in favor of the Huskies. Tanager stats: Sara Kjose – 8 set assists; Justine Sorensen – 1 kill, 2 blocks; Hannah Korkuska – 5 digs; Rachel Odens – 3 kills; and Alexa Walker – 2 kills.

Comments from coach Lori Jerred regarding the tournament: "We played hard and were in the games most of the time. Our second match loss was unfortunate, but we go on and play as best we can."
