Women golfers finish fifth in championships
The South Dakota women's golf team completed the three-day 2006 North Central Conference Championships in fifth-place with its total of 1,036, including scoring 359 at the Minnehaha Country Club today. Nebraska-Omaha took top honors with 966.

Senior Amanda Young (Mitchell) shot an 87 on the final day to bring her three-day total to 246, good for a sixth-place finish. Young finished 11 strokes back of medalist Courtney Belanger of Augustana, who defeated UNO's Lindsay Newton on the first playoff hole as both finished the event with identical scores of 235.

Junior Amber Luitjens (Aberdeen) finished in 21st.


place after posting a 95 on the final day and completing the event with a 261, while fellow junior Brooke Bonte (Beresford) placed 22nd with her 266, including a 90 on the final day.

Sophomore Kendra Neugebauer (Parkston) tied for 23rd by totaling a 270 over the three days of competition, capped off by her 94 on the final day. Freshman Candice Bonrud (Burnsville, MN) turned in her best round of the event on the final day with an 88 to finish in 25th place at 273.
