Collegiate careers end splendidly
Senior forward Tina Brummer (Gretna, NE) closed out her collegiate career in style by scoring a career-high three goals in leading the South Dakota women's soccer team to a 4-0 North Central Conference victory over St. Cloud State in the 2006 Season Finale.

It was the first hat trick by a Coyote this season, and the first since the second game of the 2005 season. USD, which won four of its last five games to close out the campaign, finished the 2006 season with a 10-7-1 mark and a 7-5-0 record in league play while the Huskies fell to 4-13-3 overall and 0-10-2 in the NCC.

It was also Senior Day at the USD Soccer Field as the Coyote Class of '06 played its last game in the Red & White. Besides Brummer, senior goalkeeper Candice Martinez (Aurora, CO) also enjoyed a perfect ending to her career by making three saves in posting her 17th career shutout. Senior midfielder Taryn Ketter (Columbus, NE) was the third member of the USD senior class to play her final collegiate game today.

Brummer had the only score of the first half when she had an unassisted effort at the 30:50 mark. Junior defender Brooke Youds (Maple Grove, MN) continued her fine season with her career-high sixth goal of the season, which came 7:44 into the second half, with freshman defender Roni Sundet (Sioux Falls) assisting on the play.

Just 1:24 later, Brummer headed in her second goal of the contest off of a feed by Youds. She completed the hat trick with 9:05 left on the clock on a breakaway goal, with sophomore midfielder Ann Opsahl (Yankton, S.D.) notching her first career assist on the play.

USD dominated the offensive statistics by outshooting the Huskies by a 34-6 margin. The Coyotes fired 21 shots on net, compared to just three for St. Cloud State. The victory allowed South Dakota to finish with a double-digit victory total for the third consecutive season. It also tied a school record with the seventh conference win of the year.
