South Dakota swimming and diving squads drop conference duals at home pool
The South Dakota women's swimming and diving team dropped to 1-1 in dual competition with a 124-119 loss to Nebraska-Omaha in the North Central Conference swimming and diving competition on Friday, Oct. 20 at the USD Pool in the DakotaDome. The Coyote men's team fell to 0-2 in its dual season with a 130-97 loss to South Dakota State.

Led by two individual wins by juniors Leita Rolfe and Jill Smolczyk, the Coyote women had six overall titles.

The Coyote men finished with five overall individual or relay titles, including a pair by sprinter Pat Albertson. A sophomore from Bozeman, Mont., Albertson won the 50 freestyle in 24.76 and won the 100 butterfly in 59.86. He also was part of USD's winning 200 freestyle relay that finished n 1:41.51.

Other members of the team included Scott Bruce of Gillette, Wyo.; Eric Thorsen of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and Tim Murman of Lincoln, Neb. Cole Moir of Cody, Wyo., won both diving events for South Dakota.

Rolfe, a junior from Newcastle, Wyo., captured the 100 breaststroke titlein 1:17.66 and the 200 freestyle in 1:00.00. She was also a member of the Coyotes winning 200 medley relay that finished in 2:02.49. That squad also included Megan Gordon of Grand Rapids, Minn; Erin Wagoner of Newcastle, Wyo.; and Stacy Bjorlie of Austin, Minn. Smolczyk won both the 1M and 3M boards for the second straight meet. She finished with 247.30 points on the 3M board and had 231.80 points on the 1M board.
