The spaghetti feed will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7 at the Vermillion Armory/Community Center. The doors will be open from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for kids under 10. For more information, you can contact Matt Brandhagen at 670-1819.
During the summer, the Stingers play the best teams from Sioux Falls, and the Midwest. Their record last year was 39-23 playing 62 games in one summer. This team placed third in the Sioux Falls League Tournament, fourth place at the state tournament, and 16th place out of 80 teams at the 2006 AFA National Tournament in Olathe, KS.
It cost the Stingers about $5,000 to play in all the tournaments and attend the AFA National Tournament. The Stingers are proud to be from Vermillion and compete with teams that have 10 times the amount of people in their community. Most teams they face have tryouts for their team and have approximately 40-50 girls try out for one team.
The Stingers had 12 tryout and 12 make the team. At least three players are being looked at by colleges to play softball. One girl has the potential to pitch for a Division 2 college, possibly Division 1. The donations that all the businesses gave to the team last year are appreciated; they could have not attended the AFA Nationals without the community and businesses help. Attend the feed to support one of the best fastpitch softball teams to come out of Vermillion.
