The Vermillion Public Library is pleased to announce that the LearningExpress exam site is now available on the library's Web site. The LearningExpress Library features elementary, middle and high school testing, job and career preparation, and adult skills improvement resources. The site provides instant scoring; customized feedback; engaging, self-paced courses; unlimited remote access; interactive test preparation and targeted skills practice. This program can be found on the Vermillion library Web site, http://vpl.sdln.net. Patrons then use their library card number and last name as the password into the exam site.
Santa Through the Ages
The library is pleased to display an amazing collection of antique Santas through the month of December. The collection belongs to Karen Marshall of Vermillion and includes over 30 different and special Santa Clauses. The display can be viewed in the New Collection book shelf behind the circulation desk.
DearReader.com Book Club
The DearReader.com Book Club offers many selections to Internet patrons. Each book runs for five days, Monday through Friday. Some genres offer selections every other week. The Scholastic Book Fair is coming! The Friends of the Library will host another book fair starting on Thursday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and on Sunday, Dec. 10 from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Community Room of the library. This is a great time to buy those special holiday gifts.
The December gathering of Scrabble Scrimmage is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m. in the Community Room of the library. Challenge others to word and spelling knowledge at this spelling social. Extra Scrabble board games and Scrabble dictionaries are welcome.
Award-winning children's author, Jan Brett, is celebrating a birthday. Our younger readers are invited to a birthday party on Monday, Dec. 11 from 1 to 2 p.m. at the library.
To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee is the Young Adult Book Club's featured book for December. The YABC will meet to discuss the book and watch the movie. Please all the library for the date and time.
The library will be closed for the holidays on Saturday, Dec. 23; Sunday, Dec. 24 and Monday, Dec. 25. We will reopen on Tuesday, Dec. 26 at 10 in the morning. Materials may be returned to the book and A/V drops located on the south side of the library building.
