Trinity's Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America held their Christmas Salad Luncheon at noon on Dec. 7 in the Fellowship Hall at Trinity Lutheran Church. Attendance, including members and guests, numbered more than 100 at the annual event.
Dorothy Neuhaus, WELCA president, greeted the group and read the Christmas story from the Gospel according to Luke. Shirley Huber, chair of the luncheon committee, introduced David Olson, local jazz pianist, who provided Christmas music during the luncheon. She offered prayer before the meal and announced directions for service at the buffet.
A program of songs for the season was presented by the Vermillion High School Chorus and the Freshman Women's Choir under the direction of Trisha Fisher.
Before the luncheon, WELCA met at 10 a.m. in Askeland Lounge for the December Bible study led by Pastor Judith Johnson. The study, ntitled "Suffering as the Consequence of Sin," was fourth in the nine-session series: Hope in God in Times of Suffering.
Following the Bible study, Dorothy Neuhaus presided at a business meeting. Members decided upon monetary Christmas gifts for the Guatemala Relief Fund, Luther Center, Lutherans Outdoors, Prison Congregations of America, and Vermillion Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In honor of Judith Johnson and Pastor Ed Anderson, WELCA will sponsor Trinity's radio broadcast in January.
Officers for 2007 were installed by Pastor Johnson: President Esther Knutson, Vice-President Glendae Anderson, Secretary Evelyn Hermanson, Treasurer Rose Henze, and Mission Action Chair Judy Lofgren. Thanks were expressed to Dorothy Neuhaus, 2006 president, and to Susanne Steenholdt, treasurer for the past nine years.
