Corps requests public's assistance in commemoration

The Gavins Point Dam Project in Yankton will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the dam's completion in 2007.

Plans are underway for a ceremony commemorating this historic event. In preparation for the Aug. 4, 2007, event, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Omaha District, requests the public's assistance. Gavins Point Dam would like to put together a reunion of people who worked on or at the dam during its construction or since its completion.

If you took part in the construction of Gavins Point Dam or know someone who did, please contact Karla Zeutenhorst at 402-667-2542 or via e-mail at Please leave the name, address and phone number of the point of contact. Point-of-contact information will be compiled for a historic record and an invitation list. In addition, if you have any photos of the area prior to or during the dam's construction, please share those, as well. All photos will be scanned and returned to senders.
