The new online degree programs offered include three master's degrees in educational administration with concentrations in elementary school principal, secondary school principal and school district superintendent. Three educational specialist degrees are also offered in educational administration with concentrations in elementary school principal, secondary school principal and school district superintendent.
The new educational administration degrees can lead to administrative certification in South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska and Minnesota. Upon completion of the degrees and a field-based internship, a student also earns licensure in one of the following areas: elementary school principal (grade K-8), secondary school principal (grade 7-12) or school district superintendent.
In addition to these six new programs, The University of South Dakota School of Education will continue to offer a master's degree in educational administration with a concentration in adult and higher education and master's and educational specialist degrees in technology for education and training.
Dr. Mark Baron, department chair for the educational administration programs, characterizes these new online degree programs as, "an innovative approach to providing busy teachers and administrators an opportunity to complete graduate degrees in educational administration that lead to administrative certification in South Dakota and the surrounding states. The purposeful balance of online coursework taught by full-time University of South Dakota educational administration faculty and field-based practical internships supervised by experienced school administrators produces effective school administrators."
