Tanager junior varsity overpowers Harrisburg
The Vermillion JV Tanagers overpowered the Harrisburg 45-19 in girls' basketball Dec. 7 at Harrisburg. The Tanagers shot 50 percent from the field for the game.

The season-opening win gave VHS a record of 1-0 while Harrisburg fell to 0-2.

"The girls played a fantastic first game of the season," said VHS coach Lori Jerred. "Transition play was a key factor in their victory. Everyone played a great full court defense and caused a lot of turnovers for Harrisburg."


The Tanagers committed only 9 turnovers while forcing 24.

The Tanagers took the lead 10-2 after the first quarter, and margins of 9-8 and 16-6 in the second and third quarters boosted the lead to 35-16 going into the final period.

VHS connected on 1 of 8 three-pointers and connected on 4 of 7 from the line. The Tanagers hit 20 of 40 from the field, while Harrisburg was 7 of 26 from the field. Harrisburg sank 0 of 3 three-point attempts and connected on 5 of 9 free throw tries.
