Tanagers win Rough Rider Invitational Wrestling Tournament
The Tanager wrestlers competed in the Rough Rider Invite tournament held at Sioux Falls Washington on Saturday. Dec. 2. Vermillion placed first with 224 points to win the tourney over the other seven entrants – Fulda/MCC, MN – 202; SF Washington – 168;, West Central – 134; , SF Lincoln – 120; Harrisburg – 98; Brandon Valley – 94; and SF Roosevelt – 80.

The VHS wrestlers making it to the championship finals were: JR Moore (112), Tanner Mart (140), Andrew Eidem (145), Nick Mart (160), Luke Heine (171), and Harrison Hawlwy (285).

Coach Casey O'Connor gave an evaluation on the tournament team. "This past weekend was great for Tanager Wrestling. I feel this tournament helped prove to our team the idea of when you work hard and stay focused on your goals, good things will happen," he said. "Having all 14 weight classes still wrestling in the placing rounds is a real accomplishment for our team. We will continue working for improvements and stay focused on the next competition which will be at Madison in a triangular meet involving Bon Homme and us next Thursday."
