Mitchell Technical Institute will benefit from the generosity of more than 20 South Dakota electric cooperative, member of the South Dakota Rural Electric Association. Together the 22 cooperative, including Clay-Union Electric Corporation, and the Union County Electric Cooperative, Elk Point, pledged a total of $25,000 to be used in the development of a new utility training field at MTI. Up to $21,000 is being matched by an anonymous donor, making the total raised $46,000.
Bids will be let in January to start the first phase of site development. When the project is complete in 2008, the new field will contain a pole climbing area, different pole heights and spans from overhead training, underground lines and terminals, a simulated city.
