State park reservation system has been upgraded

State park reservation system has been upgraded
The South Dakota State Park reservation system will be closed Jan. 8 to Jan. 13.

It will reopen on Jan. 14 to take reservations for Custer State Park and all cabins, lodges and group sites across the state. The reservation system will be completely upgraded during this down time.

"When the upgraded system is activated on Jan. 14," said Division of Parks and Recreation program specialist Lynn Spomer, "customers will see a revised Web site and will have access to a new call center located in Deadwood."

Both the reservation phone number, 1-800-710-CAMP (2267), and the Web site, www.campsd.com re-main unchanged.

The reservation system upgrade will enable park visitors to make faster reservations both online and with the call center. For people planning to make reservations, it will be beneficial to look at the new Web site and do the quick registration prior to making a reservation online.

"Just a quick reminder: Reservations for Custer State Park begin Jan. 2 for the 2007 season. All of these reservations, as well as any other previously made reservations for 2007, will be transferred to the new system during the week-long upgrade," said Spomer.

Park visitors are encouraged to make reservations online or by phone beginning Jan. 14 for Custer State Park, lodges and group sites. Cabin reservations can be made 90 days in advance. Reservations are not taken by the staff at the individual parks.

Reservations for camping at all state parks other than Custer State Park will be taken beginning Feb. 17, which will be for Open House Weekend, May 18 through 20.
