The Coyotes avenged an earlier dual meet loss (124-119) to UNO as Leita Rolfe and Jill Smolczyk each picked up two individual wins. South Dakota, ranked fourth in the nation by Collegeswim ming.com, improved its record to 3-1 in dual meets this season.
Smolczyk, with USD's Emilie Kluth, finished 1-2 on both the 1M and 3M boards. Smolczyk, a junior from Omaha, NE, had 394.85 points in the 1M competition while Kluth of Columbus, NE, was second with 366.60 points. On the 3M board, Smolczyk won a second title with 461.60 points with Kluth totaling 451.65 points. Smolczyk and Kluth both met the NCAA Division II qualifying standards on both boards (Smolczyk qualified for nationals on both boards earlier this season).
Also picking up wins for South Dakota included Meredith Howell (Lenexa, KS), 200 butterfly, 2:15.14; Stacy Bjorlie (Austin, MN), 50 free, 24.80 (national "B" cut); Angela Bergmann (Grand Rapids, MN), 100 freestyle, 56.80; Emily Connelly (Lincoln, NE), 100 backstroke, 1:01.38; Megan Gordon (Grand Rapids, MN), 200 backstroke, 2:13.91; and the 200 medley relay, 1:53.22. The 200 medley relay included Connelly, Howell, Jenna Von Fange (Wichita, KS) and Jenny Kohlbrand (Newcastle, WY).
