Vermillion Tanager gymnasts recognized their parents as they hosted the Trojans from West Central last Thursday night, Jan. 4. The Tanagers registered 118.05 points vs. 106.5 for the visiting team.

"We are stuck on 118 points," commented Coach Mark Upward. "We just haven't been able to break into the 120s at this point of this season In order to be competitive at state in February, we need to be in the 125+ range."

"However, we did have several Tanagers place in the top five in each of the events last Thursday. Calle Sorensen led the way on the uneven parallel bars as she placed first. She and Amber Walker were tied for second in the vault event; Raychel Lorenz led all competitors on the floor exercise; and Tristen Upward's 8.0 on the balance beam was good enough for her to claim the first-place spot," said the coach.

The gymnasts competed in the auxiliary gym at VHS at the same time the boys' basketball team hosted the Trojans in the main gym. "We had a couple of parents from West Central come up to us and thank us after the basketball game," said Athletic Director Jason Huska. "They were pleased that they could watch their daughter in gymnastics, and their son on the basketball team on the same night."

Vermillion varsity participants, their scores and their place in each event are as follows.
