Vermillion Tanager gymnasts entertained the Yankton Gazelles team in a dual on Jan. 2.

Facing the Class AA Gazelles, the Tanagers registered 119.6 points vs 123 for the visiting team. "We scored our season high last night," stated Coach Mark Upward. "And we didn't have Elle Melby due to an injured finger."

"The Tanagers looked good on the floor exercise, while the beam was problematic again, as they had six falls among the top individual results. Even with the falls, the Tanagers placed four participants in the top five," said Coach Upward.

The Tanagers managed to place three gymnasts on the uneven parallel bars, while the Gazelles dominated the vault competition. "I was pleased with our performances on three of the events," offered Upward. "We placed well on the beam, but our routines lacked the luster needed to be competitive at region or state level."

Vermillion varsity participants and their scores in each event are listed below.
