The Tanagers fell behind 8-6 after the opening period, trailed 19-12 at halftime, and then trailed 26-17 going into the final period.
VHS lost the game from the free throw line, making 5 of 8 charity tosses compared with 17 of 25 for WCHS.
"The JV team lost a heartbreaker 33-35," said VHS coach Lori Jerred. "The Tanagers were down by 8 with 1:40 to go. The girls had an outstanding fourth quarter performance. They came up with some steals and fouled quickly. We had a chance to win the game with a last second shot, but it didn't fall for us. I was very proud of the way the girls played. They could have easily given up, but they fought hard to the end."
The loss dropped VHS to a record of 11-2, while WCHS improved to 12-1.
