VHS Tanagers tip DV Panthers 58-47
The Vermillion Tanagers rallied in the second half and then pulled away to down the Dakota Valley Panthers 58-47 in boys basketball Feb.6 at home.

Vermillion had trailed by four at halftime.

"We started off slow but picked it up in the second half," said Vermillion Coach Jason Huska. "They got too many easy shots in the first half. Our kids came out the second half and executed on offense and played better defense."


The Tanagers committed only four turnovers in the victory.

The Tanagers fell behind 20-9 after the first quarter, but advantages of 18-11 and 17-11 in the second and third quarters gave them a lead of 44-42 going into the final period.

Vermillion now has a record of 8-8, while Dakota Valley fell to 5-9.

Vermillion made 6 of 21 three-pointers and hit 4 of 9 free throw attempts. The Tanagers connected on 24 of 55 field goal attempts, while Dakota Valley was 19 of 44 from the field. Dakota Valley sank 3 of 17 three-point attempts and hit 6 of 9 free throw tries.
