Bid awarded for new Wakonda Legion Hall
At a special Legion meeting on Feb. 19, at Girard's Auction Service, James Steel and Erection Company, from Lesterville, was awarded the bid for the construction of the new Post 13 Legion Hall. The new building will be constructed on the site of the old Legion Hall which was destroyed by fire.

Size of the new building will be 100 feet long by 50 feet wide, with 12 foot walls, providing for 5,000 square feet of space. In addition an entrance will be provided and that size will be 12 feet by 14 feet allowing for an additional 168 square feet. Wakonda's old Legion Hall had 4,500 square feet.

The bid price was for $61,000 which is for labor and material. This is just for the skeleton of the building with insulation on the inside walls.


Steffen Construction of Wakonda, will install the plumbing of the water and sewer lines to the new building.

Once the old hall has been released by the insurance company, removal of the old building will take place, and the bids will be open for the concrete work for the footing's/foundation and the floor.

The color of the building will be as follows: the bottom four feet will be green, and the top eight feet will be an off white color, with the building being trimmed in green.

The bid price doesn't include any interior work or finishings. This will be done in stages by contractors' and volunteer help. The building crew will consist of four to five workers, and will take approximately two weeks to complete for the skeleton of the building.
