The Vermillion Public Library has a subscription to Learning Express Library that lets all our patrons use its services for free. You can take practice tests and diagnostic tests to improve your class work, prepare for standardized testing, or see if you might suit a new career. To utilize this subscription, log into the VPL's Web site at http://vpl.sdln.net. Next, at the bottom of the homepage, click on the South Dakota State Library link and then click on Databases for remote users with library cards. Then scroll down the list to Learning Express Library and log in with your card number and last name.
DearReader.com Book Club
The DearReader.com Book Club offers many selections to Internet patrons. Each book runs for five days, Monday through Friday. Some genres offer selections every other week. Upcoming Calendar and Events
Volunteers from the USD School of Law and School of Business will again be available to help with tax returns at the library. You may qualify for this free service if you are low income, elderly, or a foreign filer. This service runs through April 12 on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 to 8 p.m.
Come play your favorite word game and learn new games at the next Word Games Extravaganza! The board games include Balderdash, Password, Scattergories, and Scrabble. This program will be held on Saturday, March 17 from 1 to 4 p.m. Extra word games are welcome and be sure to wear green to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
The Adult Book Club is scheduled for March 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the South Dakota Room of the library. March's selection is the novel Buffalo for the Broken Heart, by Paul O'Brien. O'Brien is a veteran writer, rancher, and environmentalist. This book chronicles his personal experiences on his ranch in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Learn more fishing skills from expert Norman Kronick of Fisherman's Bait & Tackle in South Sioux City, NE. A Fishing Is Fun program is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. in the Community Room of the library.
The Friends of the Vermillion Public Library are hosting another used book sale beginning on March 29 through April 1.
Free-range Internet is available at the library. Just bring in your wireless-ready laptop and boot up during library open hours. There is no time limit.
While you are in the library, please pick up a free copy of the Winter Weather Preparedness Guide by the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management. These guides are located on the front of the circulation desk.
